My Mother has been ringing me at odd times and leaving cryptic messages on the answerphone saying"please don't call back I don't want Dad to know I have spoken to you"
I haven't panicked,it is, I had assumed, Mothers usual weirdness or Father has been nagging her about running up phone bills ringing chums.........but no it is really weird........she is ringing me frantically now,to see if I can cater their fiftieth wedding anniversary in..............2012...............in fact October 20 bloody 12,whatever is that woman on ?
Does she still think I am that dithering, stroppy, useless fifteen year old,she kept saying things like "are you sure you can manage?"
I explained very politely and patiently that yes,I can do it standing on my head with a blindfold on and one hand tied behind my back,what do you think I spent all those years in a restaurant kitchen doing?
I am sure I see my girls as more adult than my Mother sees me.

You're lucky she even considering letting take on such a huge responsibility!
My whole family see me as a wayward teenager liable to do something completely irresponsible at any minute and keep a watchful eye out for signs of recurring hippiness and commune joining............
If you think of your children as adults, you are doing a good job, I still tell mine what to eat, how to drive..........
My mum still refers to us as "the children" which I have to admit is better than other times when she confides "well, when you get to OUR age". I haven't got anywhere near her age yet!
